Bila Shaka launched Capitan in May 2023 as their take on a balanced craft lager. The malt is toasted rather than roasted, which gives the beer its gold colour and soft caramel backbone. The hop addition is restrained, enough for a clean snap on the finish without turning bitter.
At 4.5% ABV, it is sessionable. You can drink two or three without the alcohol creeping up. Bila Shaka Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery based in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The name means “without a doubt” in Swahili.
