Bruce Jack Pinot Grigio 2025

Unlike Sauvignon Blanc, which carries more aromatic aggression and pronounced green herb character, Bruce Jack Pinot Grigio is softer on the nose and more neutral on the palate. That neutrality is a feature rather than a weakness. It means the wine adapts to a wider range of food without competing. Unlike Italian Pinot Grigio at a comparable price point, the Western Cape origin delivers fruit with more weight and stone fruit character than the typically leaner Veneto style. For buyers in Nairobi comparing white wines at this tier, this is the lower-alcohol, higher-freshness option from a producer with a 25-year documented track record in South African winemaking.
Tasting Notes
Very pale straw with a faint green rim. The nose is clean and delicate. Orange blossom and honeysuckle open first, followed by fresh pear, white peach and a faint trace of citrus zest. There is no oak here and no secondary fermentation character. The aromatics are purely varietal and immediately readable. The palate entry is light and zesty. Acidity is the defining structural feature; bright and clean, carrying the fruit forward without any weight or breadth. White peach and green apple sit in the mid-palate with a trace of citrus blossom. The mouthfeel is light and slightly silky, consistent with cool climate stainless steel fermentation. The finish is short to medium in length, closing with a clean lemon zest note and a mineral lift that fades within 15 to 20 seconds. The 2025 vintage is leaner than prior years, which gives it more focus and less generosity. Drinkers who want an easy, undemanding white will find exactly that.
Food Pairing
The light body and bright acidity of this Pinot Grigio point directly to seafood and lighter white proteins. Grilled prawns, pan-seared tilapia and fresh oysters are the strongest matches. The citrus acidity cuts through the fat of seafood cleanly without overpowering delicate flavour. Light pasta dishes with olive oil and herbs, soft fresh cheeses and green salads all work well alongside a chilled glass. The wine’s neutral, unoaked character makes it one of the more food-flexible whites available at this price point. For a Nairobi sundowner where a cold, uncomplicated glass is the priority, this is the bottle to reach for first. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10°C and drink within the current vintage for maximum freshness.
Description
A cool climate Western Cape Pinot Grigio built for freshness. Light bodied, fully dry, with citrus blossom aromatics and a palate that works as well with food as it does on its own.
The 2025 vintage carries a specific character shaped by the season. Bruce Jack picked earlier than usual in 2025, a deliberate decision to work around South Africa’s revised alcohol duty framework. The result is a wine at 12.5% ABV with a leaner, crisper profile than prior vintages — tighter on the palate, with more primary citrus and stone fruit character and less of the mid-palate weight that slightly higher alcohol provides. For buyers who prefer lighter, more refreshing white wines, the 2025 is the best expression of this label to date.
Ideal for wine lovers in Nairobi who want a versatile, food-friendly white that works equally as a sundowner pour and as a table wine through a full meal.

About The Winery
Bruce Jack grew up in Cape Town and earned a winemaking degree from the University of Adelaide in the early 1990s, where he worked his first vintages during a formative period for Australian wine. He returned to South Africa and founded Flagstone Winery in 1998 as one of the country’s first virtual wineries, operating from the Cape Town Waterfront before establishing a permanent cellar. Constellation Brands acquired Flagstone in 2008 while retaining Bruce Jack as winemaker, a role that also included rebuilding the Kumala brand to 32.5 million bottles annually. He was named Winemaker of the Year twice by two separate South African organisations during this period. Bruce Jack Wines, his own label, launched in 2018 and now sells in over 20 countries. The range spans four tiers from the Lifestyle Collection to The Drift Estate wines, all produced under screwcap, making Bruce Jack the first South African winery to bottle its full range under alternative closure.
