About the Distillery
Bushmills Black Bush is produced at the Old Bushmills Distillery, located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The distillery has a history that dates back to 1608, making it one of the oldest licensed distilleries in the world. Bushmills is celebrated for its iconic Irish whiskey production and commitment to time-honored methods.
How this product is made
Ingredients: The whiskey is made from a blend of different aged whiskeys, with a significant portion being single malt whiskey. The use of malted barley in the single malt contributes to the whiskey’s character.
Mashing and Fermentation: The malted barley is ground into grist and mixed with hot water to create a mash. The mash is then fermented with yeast, converting the sugars into alcohol. This produces a low-alcohol liquid known as “wash.”
Distillation: The wash is distilled three times in copper pot stills, which is a defining feature of Irish whiskey production. This triple distillation process results in a smooth and refined spirit.
Aging: After distillation, the whiskey is aged for a significant period, with a portion of the blend matured in sherry-seasoned oak casks. The use of sherry casks imparts additional depth and richness to the final whiskey.
Blending: Once the whiskeys have matured to the desired age, they are carefully selected and blended by the master blender to achieve the signature flavor profile of Bushmills Black Bush.
Bottling: After blending, the whiskey is bottled at its natural cask strength or diluted to the desired alcohol by volume (ABV) before being bottled for distribution.

Nose: The aroma is rich and aromatic, with notes of dried fruits, raisins, toffee, and hints of oak and spice.
Palate: On the palate, the whiskey offers a smooth and full-bodied taste. Flavors of dark chocolate, nutty sweetness, and sherry fruitiness are complemented by subtle spice and a pleasant oak influence.
Finish: The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of dried fruit and a touch of sweetness.
