About the Distillery
Bushmills Original is produced at the Old Bushmills Distillery, located in the village of Bushmills, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. With a license dating back to 1608, the Old Bushmills Distillery holds the distinction of being one of the oldest licensed whiskey distilleries in the world.
How this product is made
Ingredients: The whiskey is made from a blend of different aged whiskeys. The blend includes both malted barley whiskey and grain whiskey. The use of malted barley in the blend contributes to the whiskey’s character.
Mashing and Fermentation: The malted barley and grains are ground into grist, mixed with hot water, and mashed to create a mash. The mash is then fermented with yeast, converting the sugars into alcohol. This produces a low-alcohol liquid known as “wash.”
Distillation: The wash is distilled three times in traditional copper pot stills. The triple distillation process is a hallmark of Irish whiskey production and contributes to the whiskey’s smoothness.
Aging: After distillation, the whiskeys are aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years. The aging process allows the whiskey to develop its flavors and character.
Blending: Once the whiskeys have matured to the desired age, they are carefully selected and blended by the master blender to achieve the signature flavor profile of Bushmills Original.
Bottling: After blending, the whiskey is typically diluted to the desired alcohol by volume (ABV) and bottled for distribution.”
Technical Details
Appearance: Bushmills Original has a light golden color, reflecting its aging in oak barrels.
Nose: The aroma is gentle and inviting, with notes of malt, honey, vanilla, and hints of citrus and floral tones.
Palate: On the palate, the whiskey offers a smooth and balanced taste. Flavors of toffee, light oak, and a touch of fruitiness are complemented by a subtle spice.
Finish: The finish is warm and short, with gentle hints of malt and sweetness.

Bushmills Original typically has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of around 40%, which is standard for many Irish whiskeys.
