About the Distillery
Drambuie has a storied heritage and is deeply rooted in Scottish culture. The exact origins of the recipe are shrouded in mystery, but it is believed to have been created in the early 18th century by Bonnie Prince Charlie’s personal apothecary. The liqueur’s name “Drambuie” is derived from the Scottish Gaelic phrase “An Dram Buidheach,” which means “the drink that satisfies.”
How this product is made
Scotch Whisky: The base of Drambuie is a blend of aged Scotch whiskies, which contribute to the liqueur’s character and depth. The specific whiskies used in the blend remain a closely guarded secret.
Herbs and Spices: A proprietary blend of herbs, botanicals, and spices is steeped in the Scotch whisky. This blend includes ingredients such as saffron, heather, anise, nutmeg, and other aromatic botanicals. The exact combination of these ingredients remains undisclosed and is known only to the makers of Drambuie.
Honey Infusion: One of the key components of Drambuie’s flavor is its infusion of honey. The liqueur is sweetened with Scottish heather honey, which imparts a luscious and rounded sweetness to the blend.
Maturation: After the blending and infusion of herbs, spices, and honey, the mixture is allowed to mature and meld together. This aging process allows the flavors to harmonize, resulting in the distinctive taste of Drambuie.
