About the Distillery

Glenfiddich Distillery, located in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland, was founded by William Grant in 1887. It remains family-owned to this day and is one of the few distilleries in Scotland that continues to maintain a substantial amount of its production in-house, from growing barley to bottling the final product.  

How this product is made

Malted Barley: The distillery sources high-quality malted barley for whisky production. The barley grains are soaked in water, allowed to germinate, and then dried in kilns to halt germination. This process develops the barley’s flavors and prepares it for mashing.

Mashing: The dried malted barley is ground into grist and mixed with hot water in the mash tun to extract fermentable sugars, creating a sugary liquid known as wort.

Fermentation: The wort is cooled and transferred to fermentation vessels, where yeast is added. Yeast converts the sugars into alcohol during fermentation, producing a liquid known as “wash.”

Distillation: The wash is double-distilled in copper pot stills, a process that helps refine the spirit and concentrate its flavors. The second distillation produces the “new make” spirit.

Maturation: Glenfiddich 15 Year Old is aged for at least 15 years in a combination of American oak, ex-bourbon casks, and European oak, ex-sherry casks. This dual cask aging process contributes to the whisky’s complexity, as it interacts with the wood and gains unique flavors from each cask type.

Marriage: After maturation, the whisky from the different casks is married together to achieve a harmonious and balanced flavor profile.

Bottling: The final whisky is then bottled at its optimal strength, ready for distribution.”

 Technical Details   

Appearance: Glenfiddich 15-Year-Old displays a deep golden amber color, characteristic of its aging in oak casks.
Nose: The aroma is rich and aromatic, with notes of honey, baked apple, oak, and hints of spices and dried fruit.
Palate: On the palate, the whisky offers a velvety and well-rounded texture. Flavors of toffee, cinnamon, vanilla, and a gentle fruitiness come to the forefront.
Finish: The finish is warm and lingering, with a delicate balance of sweetness and oak spice.

Alcohol Content:
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old typically has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of around 40%, which is standard for most single malt Scotch whiskies.
