About the Distillery
Glenfiddich Distillery, founded in 1886 by William Grant, is one of the most iconic and influential distilleries in the world of single malt Scotch whisky. Situated in the Speyside region of Scotland, Glenfiddich has remained family-owned and is renowned for its commitment to tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation.
How this product is made
Malted Barley: The whisky starts with malted barley, which is soaked in water to trigger germination, and then dried in kilns to halt the process. This produces the essential malted barley, which is the foundation for whisky production.
Mashing and Fermentation: The malted barley is ground into grist and combined with hot water in a process known as mashing, extracting fermentable sugars. The resulting liquid, known as wort, is then fermented with yeast in washbacks, producing an alcohol-rich wash.
Distillation: The wash is distilled in copper pot stills, where the alcohol is separated from impurities and collected as “new make spirit.” This spirit is then aged in oak casks to become whisky.
Aging and Rum Cask Finish: Glenfiddich 21-Year-Old is aged for a minimum of 21 years in a combination of American oak and European oak casks. After this initial maturation, a portion of the whisky is transferred to Caribbean rum casks for a secondary finishing period. The rum cask finish imparts tropical fruit notes and adds complexity to the whisky’s character.
Blending and Bottling: After the rum cask finish, the whiskies are expertly blended together to achieve the desired flavor profile. The final blend is then typically diluted to the desired alcohol by volume (ABV) and bottled for distribution.”

Appearance: Glenfiddich’s 21-year-old may have a warm golden amber color, reflective of its extensive aging process.
Nose: The aroma is rich and inviting, with notes of sweet toffee, ripe fruits, and subtle hints of oak and spice.
Palate: On the palate, the whisky offers a complex and well-balanced taste. Expect flavors of caramel, vanilla, tropical fruits, and delicate spices, all layered with the influence of the rum cask finish.
Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering fruity and oaky notes.
