About The Distillery
William Matheson and his wife Anne founded Glenmorangie in 1843, converting an existing brewery on Morangie Farm near Tain into a licensed distillery. Rather than commission new equipment, Matheson bought a pair of second-hand gin stills, tall and swan necked, and that decision became the defining feature of the distillery’s whisky ever since. Glenmorangie’s stills remain the tallest in Scotland, a height that produces an unusually light, elegant spirit before any cask influence is added. For over a century, production was overseen by a small, dedicated team known as the Sixteen Men of Tain, a tradition that continues today under an expanded crew. Glenmorangie has been part of the Moët Hennessy group since 2004, and the range is available through The Wine Box Kenya in Nairobi.
