About the Distillery
Hennessy is a prestigious Cognac house with a history dating back to 1765 when it was founded by Richard Hennessy in Cognac, France. Over the centuries, the brand has become synonymous with luxury and quality, and it remains one of the world’s leading producers of high-quality Cognac.
How this product is made
Grapes and Wine: Hennessy VSOP is made from grapes grown in the Cognac region of France. The most commonly used grape varieties for Cognac production are Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, and Colombard. After harvesting, the grapes are fermented into a wine known as “”eau-de-vie”” with low alcohol content.
Distillation: The eau-de-vie is distilled twice in copper pot stills to increase the alcohol concentration and concentrate the flavors. This distillation process helps to remove impurities and create a smooth, high-quality spirit.
Aging: After distillation, the young eau-de-vie is transferred to oak barrels for aging. Hennessy VSOP is aged for at least four years, during which it develops complexity and depth of flavor. The aging process also imparts color to the Cognac due to the interaction with the oak.
Blending: Hennessy is known for its exceptional blending skills. The master blender carefully selects eau-de-vie from various barrels, each aged for different periods, to create a harmonious and consistent flavor profile for Hennessy VSOP.
Bottling: Once the blending process is complete, the Cognac is typically diluted to the desired alcohol by volume (ABV) and bottled for distribution.
Technical Details
Appearance: Hennessy VSOP has a rich amber color with golden highlights, reflecting its aging in oak barrels.
Nose: The aroma is a delightful combination of dried fruits, vanilla, toasted oak, and a hint of floral and spice notes.
Palate: On the palate, the Cognac offers a velvety and full-bodied taste. Flavors of caramel, ripe fruit, honey, and warm spices are present.
Finish: The finish is long and lingering, with a pleasant warmth and a touch of sweetness.
