Hesketh Unfinished Business Pinot Noir 2025

Unlike Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon, which carry heavier tannins and suit fatty or charred meat, this Pinot Noir is light to medium bodied and works with chicken, duck and mushrooms. This Pinot Noir comes from a cool region, so the fruit stays red and juicy rather than jammy. For buyers in Kenya looking for an easy, food friendly red, look no further than The Wine Box, this is a straightforward choice.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby red with a tinge of purple. The nose opens with ripe cherry and raspberry, and an earthy note sits underneath the fruit. On the palate the wine is light to medium bodied, with red fruit at the front. The acidity is juicy and the tannins are plush, so the wine feels soft rather than dry in the mouth. A touch of savoury spice adds interest through the middle. The finish is soft and easy, with the red fruit lingering. The whole berry portion gives the nose a lift that a plain crushed ferment would not.
Food Pairing
Light body, juicy acidity and soft tannins suit poultry and lighter meat. Roast chicken and duck breast are the strongest matches, and a lightly seasoned kuku choma works on the same logic. Mushroom dishes and charcuterie also sit well beside it. For a more casual meal, pizza and pork sausages are easy matches. Serve it slightly cool at 14 to 16°C, which is about 15 minutes in the fridge from room temperature. For a relaxed Nairobi lunch or a weekend gathering where the food is simple, this is a red that stays out of the way.
What You Need to Know:
Is this Pinot Noir dry, or does it taste sweet?
It is a dry red. The ripe cherry and raspberry can read as sweet on the nose, but the palate stays dry.
I usually drink white wine. Would I like this?
Pinot Noir is often the easiest red for white wine drinkers. This one is light to medium bodied, with juicy acidity and soft tannins.
How is this different from Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz?
It is much lighter in body and lower in tannin. It suits chicken, duck and mushrooms, where a heavier red would overpower the plate.
Should I serve it chilled?
Slightly. Aim for 14 to 16°C, which is about 15 minutes in the fridge from room temperature.
What food goes best with this wine?
Roast chicken, duck breast and mushroom dishes are the strongest matches. Charcuterie, pizza and pork sausages suit a more casual meal.

Description
A light red Pinot Noir from Australia’s cool Limestone Coast, part whole berry fermented. Order online in Nairobi through The Wine Box.
Pinot Noir has thin skins and needs cool conditions to ripen without losing its perfume. That is why the Limestone Coast, in the south-east corner of South Australia, suits it. Hesketh sources the fruit for this wine from a selection of premium cool climate vineyards across the region, and the 2025 season stayed cooler than average with a dry lead up to harvest.
The winemaking adds two small touches. A small portion of the fruit ferments as whole berries, which gives the wine more aromatic lift, and some maturation in older oak adds texture to the palate. The result is light to medium bodied, with juicy acidity and plush tannin.
For a Nairobi buyer who finds most reds too heavy for a warm evening, this is a good fit. Best suited to white wine drinkers who want to try a red, and to anyone who wants a red that works without a special occasion.
