About the Distillery
Jim Beam is a historic distillery located in Clermont, Kentucky, and has a legacy that spans over two centuries. The brand is named after James B. Beam, who reopened the distillery in the late 1800s after Prohibition. Today, Jim Beam is one of the largest bourbon producers globally and a symbol of American whiskey craftsmanship.
How this product is made
Ingredients: Jim Beam White is made primarily from a mash bill containing at least 51% corn, along with malted barley and other grains such as rye and/or wheat. The use of corn in the mash bill contributes to the whiskey’s sweetness.
Mashing: The grains are ground into a coarse powder and combined with water to create a mash. The enzymes in the malted barley convert the starches into fermentable sugars.
Fermentation: The mash is fermented using yeast, and the fermentation process converts the sugars into alcohol. This produces a low-alcohol liquid known as “distiller’s beer.”
Distillation: The distiller’s beer is then distilled in copper pot stills or continuous column stills to produce a higher-proof spirit known as “new make” whiskey.
Aging: The newly made whiskey is transferred to new charred oak barrels for aging. By law, bourbon must be aged in new charred oak barrels, and Jim Beam White is typically aged for at least four years, although some barrels may be aged longer.
Bottling: After the aging process, the bourbon is carefully selected and blended to achieve a consistent flavor profile across each bottling. It is then diluted to the desired alcohol by volume (ABV) before bottling.”
Technical Details
Appearance: Jim Beam White has a rich amber color, reflective of its aging in charred oak barrels.
Nose: The aroma is sweet and oaky, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and hints of corn and spice.
Palate: On the palate, the bourbon offers a smooth and balanced taste. Sweet flavors of caramel, vanilla, and toffee are complemented by a gentle spice, including notes of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Finish: The finish is medium to long, with lingering caramel and oak notes.
