Unlike Beaujolais Nouveau, which is fermented quickly and released within weeks of harvest, this Brouilly is a cru wine with genuine vineyard identity. Furthermore, Louis Latour’s two century relationship with the region gives the wine a level of consistency and authenticity that negociants without long term contracts cannot match. As a result, the wine offers a transparent expression of granite grown Gamay at a price point that undercuts even village level Burgundy Pinot Noir. For those comparing light red options in Nairobi, this Brouilly delivers genuine Burgundy pedigree without the premium.

Tasting Notes
Bright ruby with a purple rim. The nose is immediate and primary. Initially, Morello cherry, wild strawberry and crushed violet dominate. The semi carbonic signature is unmistakable. However, with 15 minutes in the decanter, granite minerality, white pepper and a faint dried herb note emerge. Furthermore, pomegranate, rose petal and a trace of graphite develop over time. On the palate, the wine is light to medium in weight. The tannins are minimal and soft, providing little grip. Additionally, the acidity is bright and mouth watering, carrying flavours of red cherry, cranberry and a hint of pomegranate through the mid palate. The absence of oak leaves the fruit transparent and pure. The finish is clean and mineral. Crushed stone, red berry skin and a faint saline trace that persists for 25 seconds. This wine is built for immediacy. Serve slightly chilled and drink within 18 months of release.
Food Pairing
At 12.5% ABV and with minimal tannin, this Brouilly pairs with lighter fare than most reds. Roast chicken with herbs and grilled salmon are therefore the strongest matches. The wine’s bright acidity and low structure sit cleanly against delicate protein without overwhelming it. Additionally, charcuterie, goat cheese and mushroom tart work well at the table. The fruit and mineral finish complement savoury, earthy flavours. For a Nairobi afternoon where the occasion calls for something refreshing and versatile, this is the bottle that delivers. A picnic, a casual lunch, or a midweek dinner where the goal is simply to have something light and food friendly in the glass. Serve at 14 to 16°C. Light decant 15 minutes before serving.
What You Need to Know:
What does this Brouilly taste like compared to Beaujolais Nouveau?
This is a cru wine from a specific vineyard area, aged 6 to 8 months before release. Beaujolais Nouveau is fermented quickly and released within weeks. Consequently, this has more depth, mineral complexity and structure. The Nouveau is simpler, fruitier and designed for immediate consumption only.
Is this too light for someone who usually drinks Cabernet Sauvignon?
If your reference is full bodied, tannic red, this will feel light and fruity. The tannins are minimal and the body is medium at most. It is consequently a different style entirely. Think of it as a refreshing red for warm weather rather than a steak wine.
Should I drink this now or cellar it?
Drink now. This wine is built for immediacy and will not improve with age. The optimal window is 2025 to 2026. The natural cork allows minimal ageing but the primary fruit will fade rather than develop complexity.
What food works best with this Brouilly?
Roast chicken with herbs, grilled salmon and charcuterie are ideal. The low tannin and bright acidity suit delicate proteins and savoury flavours. Additionally, goat cheese and mushroom tart work for vegetarian options.
How does Brouilly differ from other Beaujolais crus ?
Brouilly is the largest and most southerly cru. Its granite soils give more mineral drive and a slightly firmer structure than Fleurie, which is softer and more floral. Morgon is denser and more structured, with greater ageing potential. Brouilly consequently sits in the middle. Fruity, mineral and immediately approachable.
Does the natural cork affect freshness?
Natural cork allows minimal micro oxygenation, which is appropriate for a wine designed for consumption within 18 months. However, it carries a small risk of cork taint. Store horizontally in a cool, dark environment. For short term drinking, the closure is traditional and suitable.
What should I do if this bottle is out of stock?
Our customer service team can help you find a suitable alternative or source the product where possible. Reach out before your event.
How fast can I get this Brouilly delivered in Nairobi?
Nairobi orders placed before 9 PM qualify for same day delivery, typically completed within a 1 hour window. Free delivery applies to orders above KES 3,000 within Nairobi. Orders outside Nairobi are delivered nationwide across Kenya within 24 to 48 hours.

Description

A single cru Beaujolais from one of Burgundy’s oldest houses, now available in Nairobi, Kenya. The 2024 vintage delivers Gamay’s signature cherry and granite minerality through old vine fruit and traditional semi carbonic fermentation.

The 2024 growing season in Beaujolais was warm and dry. As a result, Gamay achieved full phenolic ripeness while the elevation of Mont Brouilly preserved acidity. Additionally, Louis Latour employed traditional semi carbonic maceration. Whole bunches are placed in tank and fermentation begins inside the berries themselves before crushing. This technique gives Beaujolais its signature bright fruit and low tannin. The wine was then aged briefly in stainless steel or large foudres to preserve freshness. This 2024 vintage across Beaujolais has been praised for its balance and immediacy. For buyers in Nairobi, Kenya seeking an authentic, food friendly Burgundy without the price tag of Pinot Noir from the Côte d’Or, this is the most distinctive entry point currently available at The Wine Box Kenya.
