Meerlust Red 2021

What defines Meerlust Red 2021 is its sense of cohesion. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and backbone, while Merlot adds generosity and Cabernet Franc contributes lift and aromatic nuance. Petit Verdot deepens the frame without darkening the mood.
The blend is guided by integration rather than dominance. Oak is supportive, never leading. The result is a wine that feels complete, composed and unmistakably Meerlust — a red that fits naturally into both everyday dining and more considered occasions.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby with youthful brightness. The nose is inviting and layered, showing black cherry, blackberry and plum, followed by savoury notes of cedar, dried herbs and gentle spice.
On the palate, the wine feels rounded and cohesive. Dark fruit, subtle earth and a touch of graphite move smoothly across well-shaped tannins. The mid-palate broadens gently before tapering into a composed, savoury finish that lingers without force.
Food Pairing
This wine is highly adaptable at the table. It pairs naturally with roast chicken, grilled lamb, beef dishes, mushroom risotto and slow-cooked stews. Its balance and supple tannins also make it an excellent match for cheese boards and shared plates, where versatility matters more than power.
Description
Meerlust Red is the clearest introduction to the estate’s house style. It carries the same DNA as Rubicon. But in a form that opens earlier and speaks more openly.
The 2021 vintage emphasised freshness and definition, allowing the blend to settle naturally into harmony. It is neither austere nor indulgent. Instead, it finds its strength in proportion, offering depth without weight and structure without severity.
