The Naturalys Chardonnay is transparent and mineral driven. Furthermore, the organic certification and vegan status are verified by external audit. They are not marketing additions. As a result, the wine offers accountability that conventional production does not match. For those comparing organic white options in Nairobi, this Languedoc Chardonnay offers genuine certification and low intervention integrity at a price point that undercuts comparable Burgundy or Loire Valley bottles.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold with green highlights. The nose is precise and fresh. Initially, white peach, green apple and lemon zest dominate. The cool site selection is evident. However, with a few minutes in the glass, white flowers, wet stone and a faint almond note emerge. Furthermore, dried herbs, chalk dust and a trace of beeswax develop over time. On the palate, the wine is medium in weight. The entry is crisp and mouth watering. Bright acidity carries flavours of quince, pear and a hint of grapefruit through the mid palate. Additionally, the seasoned oak contributes a subtle, almost nutty texture without vanilla or toast. The finish is clean and mineral. Crushed oyster shell, lemon peel and a faint saline trace that persists for 25 seconds. This wine is built for immediacy. Serve well chilled and drink within 12 months of release.

Food Pairing

At 12.5% ABV and with high acidity, this Chardonnay pairs with light, fresh dishes. Grilled sea bass with lemon and oysters on the half shell are therefore the strongest matches. The wine’s mineral finish mirrors shellfish salinity. Additionally, goat cheese salad, asparagus risotto and sushi work well at the table. The acidity cuts through richness cleanly. For a Nairobi afternoon where the occasion calls for something refreshing and ethically produced, this is the bottle that delivers. A poolside lunch, a midweek dinner, or a gathering where guests value organic certification. Serve at 10 to 12°C. No decanting required.

What You Need to Know:

What does this Chardonnay taste like compared to oaked styles?
This is more mineral and less creamy than barrel fermented Chardonnay. The stainless steel and seasoned oak preserve fruit purity rather than adding vanilla or butter. It is consequently more crisp and more food driven. Think of it as a White Burgundy alternative at a lower price point.
Is this too acidic for someone who usually drinks buttery Chardonnay?
If your reference is full malolactic, heavily oaked California Chardonnay, this will feel lean and mineral. There is no creaminess or vanilla. It is consequently a different style entirely. Think of it as a palate refresher rather than a replacement.
Should I drink this now or cellar it?
Drink now. This wine is built for immediacy and will not improve with age. The optimal window is 2025 to 2026. The natural cork allows minimal ageing but the primary fruit and delicate aromatics will fade rather than develop complexity.
What food works best with this Chardonnay?
Grilled sea bass with lemon, oysters and goat cheese salad are ideal. The high acidity and mineral character suit seafood, fresh cheese and green vegetables. Additionally, asparagus risotto and sushi work for lighter occasions.
What does organic certification mean for this wine?
Organic certification prohibits synthetic pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers in the vineyard. Additionally, winemaking restrictions limit sulphur and artificial additives. The certification is audited externally. It provides accountability that conventional production does not match.
How does Languedoc Chardonnay differ from Burgundy or Chablis?
The Languedoc is warmer than both. Consequently, the Chardonnay achieves riper stone fruit and softer acidity. Burgundy offers more structure and earth. Chablis is more mineral and austere. The Languedoc sits between the two in ripeness but lacks the complexity of cooler climates.
Does the natural cork affect freshness?
Natural cork allows minimal micro oxygenation, which is appropriate for a wine designed for consumption within 12 months. However, it carries a small risk of cork taint. Store horizontally in a cool, dark environment. For short term drinking, the closure is traditional and suitable.
What should I do if this bottle is out of stock?
Our customer service team can help you find a suitable alternative or source the product where possible. Reach out before your event.
How fast can I get this Chardonnay delivered in Nairobi?
Nairobi orders placed before 9 PM qualify for same day delivery, typically completed within a 1 hour window. Free delivery applies to orders above KES 3,000 within Nairobi. Orders outside Nairobi are delivered nationwide across Kenya within 24 to 48 hours.

About The Winery

Gérard Bertrand took over his father’s Domaine de Villemajou in 1987 at the age of 22. He has since built a portfolio of 16 estates across the Languedoc Roussillon, encompassing over 850 hectares. The Naturalys line was created to make organic and biodynamic wines accessible at everyday price points, without the premium that often accompanies certification.
The Languedoc itself is France’s largest wine region. Bertrand has been a leading advocate for organic and biodynamic conversion since the early 2000s, with a significant portion of his vineyards now certified. For buyers in Kenya, Naturalys represents an entry into Gérard Bertrand’s broader philosophy of sustainable, terroir driven wine. A label that delivers certification and conscience without the price barrier of his premium tiers.
