Sadie Sonvang 2024 is architecturally compelling. Its many grape varieties interweave in a way that feels intentional rather than disparate. Co-planting means the wine’s character is forged in the vineyard: fruit, herb and spice merge organically, giving the palate a focused yet multidimensional feel where every element propels the next.
Tannins are granular and pulled tight, creating structured tension without heaviness. Instead of broad generosity, the wine offers core intensity with a taut, saline-tinged finish. This is a wine where complexity is not showy but revealed gradually, inviting attentive tasting and promising evolution over years.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet with violet edges. The nose offers bright red and dark berries, Mediterranean rosemary, Provençal herbs and smoky paprika. Beneath this there are subtle notes of struck flint and dried spice that hint at its layered personality.
On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with polished, granular tannins, vivid acidity and an engaging mineral thread. Fruit shows tension rather than sweetness — red plum and blackcurrant interlace with dried herbs, black pepper and a light herbal bitter note that keeps each sip lively.
Food Pairing
This red field blend pairs beautifully with herb-crusted lamb, grilled meats, rich tomato sauces, braised pork shoulder and dishes with rosemary, thyme and black peppercorns. It also matches with smoked meats and earthy mushroom dishes that echo its herbaceous and savoury layers.

Sonvang is the inaugural release of a hands-on field blend crafted with climate-resilient Mediterranean and Iberian varieties, planted with a view toward future growing conditions. It represents a forward-looking approach to South African viticulture — co-planting diverse varieties to forge complexity and balance from the vineyard itself, not through manipulation in the cellar.
