Unlike Mendoza Malbec, this Cabernet Franc keeps its fruit lifted. Where Malbec offers plush blackberry and coating tannins, this wine keeps its structure linear. That makes it the right bottle for red wine drinkers who find Malbec too heavy. They still get an Argentine red, just with less weight on the palate. It is one of the most distinctive entry-level Cabernet Francs in our range.

Tasting Notes

Redcurrant and ripe plum lead the aroma, followed by a flick of dried mint and a trace of vanilla from oak ageing. First impression on the palate is medium-bodied and precise — fine-grained tannins that do not clamp down. Mid-palate opens into morello cherry and a pinch of pink peppercorn before tobacco leaf emerges. The close signs off with dried orange peel and mineral chalk that holds for roughly 30 seconds. What separates this from Mendoza Malbec is the lifted acidity that keeps the fruit nimble rather than plush.

Food Pairing

Grilled lamb chops with rosemary are the strongest match. The herbaceous notes echo the herbs on the meat, and the medium tannins cut through the fat without overpowering the plate. It also works beside tomato-based pasta or mild beef stew. Try it with nyama choma rubbed with garlic and black pepper. On a warm evening in the capital where the grill is running, this is the bottle that holds across the full spread.

About The Winery

Felipe Rutini founded La Rural winery in Coquimbito, Maipú, in 1885. He emigrated from Ascoli Piceno, Italy, where his family had already been making wine. In 1925, the Rutini family planted the first vineyards in Tupungato, now a leading subregion at altitudes between 1,050 and 1,200 meters. Their philosophy has remained consistent: plant on the best hillside sites and let the fruit carry the wine.
