Trumpeter Merlot is an intense ruby colour; aromas include cherry and plum, with some spice and a touch of smoke; on the palate, black fruit and coffee come through, with soft tannins and a touch of astringency giving a pleasant, persistent finish.

Trumpeter Merlot pairs well with game meats such as duck or rabbit. Also try it with vegetarian food such as grilled aubergines and mushroom dishes.
About this bottle
This wine is made by Rutini Wines, one of Argentina’s oldest wineries. The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Uco Valley, the premier wine growing region of Mendoza. Here, the vines are stressed by high altitude and free draining soils, with the result that yields are lower but the fruit is more intensely flavoured.
The winemaker matures the wine in French and American oak for 7 months before bottling. This imparts complexity and structure while softening the tannins.
