Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2024
KShs2,675 incl. of VAT
Unlike the standard Yealands Sauvignon Blanc, built for everyday, uncomplicated drinking, the Reserve carries noticeably more layering and a distinct mineral and saline character drawn directly from the Seaview Vineyard’s coastal position. Unlike Sauvignon Blanc from warmer, more inland Marlborough sites, this wine’s proximity to the sea gives it a genuinely different finish, one that reviewers have specifically called out as unusual and memorable. For buyers in Kenya wanting a more serious expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc without stepping up to a single vineyard bottling, this Reserve is one of the more distinctive options available at The Wine Box Kenya.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass with a faint green tinge. The nose is lively and inviting, perfumed blackcurrant leaf and key lime leading, with fresh herb and passionfruit layered underneath. On the palate the entry shows real complexity, fruit sweetness and citrus drive working together rather than one dominating the other, before settling into a long mineral finish. Passion fruit and green papaya carry through the mid-palate, joined by lemon basil, fresh ginger and a touch of lemon balm. The finish closes with an unusual but genuinely distinctive note, a faint salinity reminiscent of Himalayan sea salt, with green tea lingering well after the glass is empty. This is Sauvignon Blanc with real layering, built to reward a slower glass rather than a quick pour.
Food Pairing
The wine’s acidity and mineral character make it a natural match for seafood. Grilled or baked white fish, oysters and mussels are the strongest pairings, the salinity on the finish echoing the brine of the dish directly. Fresh green salads, goat’s cheese and asparagus or artichoke based dishes also work well, given the wine’s vibrant acidity and exotic fruit character. For a Nairobi lunch or a dinner built around lighter, fresher food, this is a white with enough complexity to carry the meal rather than simply accompany it.
What You Need to Know:
How is the Reserve different from the standard Yealands Sauvignon Blanc?
The Reserve carries more layering and complexity, with a distinct mineral and saline character drawn from the Seaview Vineyard’s coastal position. The standard bottling is built for simpler, more everyday drinking.
What makes that saline, almost salty note on the finish?
It comes directly from the Seaview Vineyard’s proximity to the coast, close enough that sea mist regularly settles over the vines. That maritime influence shows up as a genuine mineral and saline character in the finished wine.
Is this wine dry or does it carry noticeable sweetness?
It’s dry, with 4.1 grams per litre of residual sugar, low enough that the wine reads as crisp rather than sweet. The passion fruit and papaya character can suggest ripeness, but the finish closes clean and mineral.
What food pairs best with this wine?
Grilled or baked white fish, oysters and mussels are the strongest matches. Fresh green salads, goat’s cheese and asparagus or artichoke dishes also work well against the wine’s acidity.
Is Yealands genuinely a sustainable producer or is that just marketing?
It’s independently certified. Yealands is one of only a handful of wineries worldwide certified carbon neutral, and the only one certified from the very day it was founded rather than years into operation.
What should I do if this bottle is out of stock?
Our customer service team can help you find a suitable alternative or source the product where possible.
Can I get Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc delivered same day in Nairobi?
Nairobi orders placed before 9 PM qualify for same-day delivery, typically completed within a 1-hour window. Free delivery applies to orders above KES 3,000 within Nairobi. Orders outside Nairobi are delivered nationwide across Kenya within 24 to 48 hours.
Description
Grown on one of New Zealand’s most coastal vineyards, close enough to the sea that mist regularly settles on the vines. Wine Spectator scored the 2024 at 91 points. Order online in Nairobi through The Wine Box.
Yealands built its entire operation around the Awatere Valley, the southernmost, coolest and driest of Marlborough’s three growing areas, and the Seaview Vineyard sits right at the edge of that landscape, close enough to the coastline that sea mist regularly settles over the vines. That proximity shapes everything about the fruit, cooler ripening, firmer acidity and a distinct mineral character that warmer, more inland sites simply can’t reproduce.
Yealands is also one of only a handful of wineries anywhere certified carbon neutral from the moment it was founded, rather than adjusting operations years later to meet a standard. Wine Spectator reviewed the 2024 Reserve in October 2024, scoring it 91 points and describing intense notes of passion fruit and green papaya alongside Himalayan sea salt and green tea on the finish, a tasting note that points directly to the vineyard’s coastal influence. For a Nairobi buyer who wants more complexity than an entry-level Marlborough white typically offers, this is a step up built on a genuinely distinctive site.

About Yealands Estate
Peter Yealands founded his namesake winery in 2008 on a large stretch of coastal land in the Awatere Valley, building the operation around sustainability from the outset rather than treating it as an afterthought. Yealands became one of only a handful of wineries in the world certified carbon neutral, and the first ever certified from inception rather than retrofitted into an existing operation. Winemaker Natalie Christensen leads the cellar today, working closely with the Seaview Vineyard’s distinct coastal blocks to shape wines that reflect the site’s maritime character. Since 2018, the estate has operated under Marlborough Lines, a community owned power company. The wines are available through The Wine Box Kenya in Nairobi.
