“Sambuca is made using a similar production process to other anise-flavored liqueurs. The production process for Zappa Sambuca Original involves the following key steps:
Anise and Other Botanicals: The primary flavor in Sambuca comes from anise seeds, which provide the characteristic licorice taste. Other botanicals, such as fennel, star anise, and sometimes other herbs and spices, may be used to enhance the flavor profile.
Macération and Distillation: The botanicals are macerated in alcohol to extract their flavors and aromas. After maceration, the liquid is distilled to refine the spirit and intensify the anise flavor.
Sugar and Color: Sugar is added to create a sweet liqueur, and sometimes, caramel or other coloring agents are added to achieve the desired hue.
Bottling: Once the production process is complete, the Sambuca is brought to the desired bottling strength and bottled for distribution.”
