If you've ever been to a winery, considered a winery tour, or researched a specific wine region, chances are you've seen the term Cellar Door thrown around a fair bit, but what does it mean?

Historically, wine was made, stored, and aged, underground. This was the best way to obtain a stable cool temperature as cool room technology had not yet been developed. Large wineries would have total labyrinths of underground wine stores. And so it began. People would knock on the cellar doors to alert winemakers to their presence. As time went on, the cellar doors became fitted areas used for tastings and sales.

Today, cellar doors are a key part of many wineries and many now have their own restaurants to better enhance the tasting experience.

What is The Wine Box Cellar Door?

The Cellar Door is open 7 days a week for our customers to come and visit us, try samples of our offers of the week and view our full range of wines and spirits available. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, we open the Cellar Door for groups of a minimum of 6 to experience an evening of wine tasting led by Kenya's top sommeliers.

With inspiration from the wineries, we set up The Wine Box Cellar Door as a haven for true wine lovers, enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike to come and explore the inspiring world of wine. As a fine wine specialist priding ourselves for bringing to Kenya some of the very best wines from around the world, we want to revolutionize the wine buying experience in Kenya.

No matter what your wine knowledge is, a visit to our Cellar Door is a fantastic way to learn more about the fabulous wines you already enjoy drinking. Our expert staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have. You get to sample for free some of the wines we have on special each week without an obligation to buy. While this is a bit of a cost for us, we believe that tastings are a fantastic way for our customers to try out a variety of the wines we offer, without buying whole bottles.

Private Tastings at The Wine Box Cellar Door

At The Wine Box Cellar Door, we've also designed an exclusive offering for those seeking a truly world class, in-depth, private wine tasting experience hosted by our top-rated sommeliers. At these tastings, you will be taken through 6 glasses of premium or ultra-premium wines (depending on the package you choose) plus a complimentary glass of Sparkling on arrival. All this in a very lively, intimate session where you're guided on how to taste the wine, taken through the taste profiles of the wines, the history of the wineries and even provided with food pairing suggestions.

We can also design a tasting experience to your preference.

Minimum pax is 6 people and maximum pax is 12 people.

Private Tastings are offered on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

Arrival is at 5.30pm for 6pm start and a hard finish at 9pm.

Order wines on the night for next day delivery.
