The Astral Tequila is a 100% agave blanco made with Tahona milling rather than industrial diffusion. The difference is texture and clarity: more agave fibre on the palate, less caramel masking. A pale honey reposado rested five months in bourbon barrels — the middle ground Nairobi drinkers reach for when blanco is too sharp and añejo is too rich.

Pre-industrial methods define this bottle. A Tahona wheel — an ancestral stone mill — crushes cooked agave piñas before double distillation. That process is slower than industrial shredding. The result is a blanco that keeps more raw agave character in the glass.
The current recipe, relaunched in 2022, is bottled at 40% ABV. It is made from 100% Blue Weber agave sourced across Jalisco, Nayarit and Michoacán. For the buyer, the practical point is a cleaner, more defined base spirit than mass-market mixtos. About The Distillery

Richard Betts founded Astral in 2006 after passing the Court of Master Sommeliers exam on his first attempt. He built the brand around pre-industrial methods: Tahona wheel milling, open fermentation with agave fibres, and double distillation. The goal was to make tequila the way it was produced 150 years ago. In 2017, Davos Brands acquired Astral, and Diageo purchased Davos in 2020. The current 40% ABV recipe, relaunched in 2022, keeps the Tahona method intact while softening the proof for broader cocktail use. The Wine Box carries Astral as part of its agave range.
