Bodega Historica Malbec 2025

Unlike Rutini’s Blend of Terroirs Malbec, which draws structure and complexity from three separate Uco Valley sites, Bodega Histórica keeps things simple, one region, one grape, a short oak programme, and a wine that’s ready soon after bottling. For buyers in Kenya wanting an accessible, everyday Malbec rather than something built for cellaring or careful food pairing, this is the more casual option from the same producer at The Wine Box Kenya, named for the district where Argentine wine itself began.
Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red in the glass, bright and youthful. The nose is generously fruity, ripe strawberry and cherry leading the way, with a light touch of tobacco and coffee coming through from the time spent in oak. On the palate the entry is soft and immediately approachable, the fruit carrying real intensity without ever feeling heavy. The tannins are gentle, more of a light grip than any real structure, which keeps the whole wine feeling easy rather than serious. The finish is pleasant and expressive, closing on the same red fruit character that opened the glass, with just enough length to feel satisfying without lingering into anything complicated. This is Malbec built for straightforward enjoyment rather than analysis.
Food Pairing
This is a casual, everyday red rather than one built around a specific dish. Grilled sausages, empanadas and simple tomato-based pasta all work comfortably alongside it, the soft tannins asking nothing complicated of the food. A straightforward beef stew or a weeknight braai does the job just as well. For a Nairobi evening where the plan is easy company and uncomplicated food rather than a formal dinner, this is a bottle that opens without fuss and drinks the same way.
What You Need to Know:
Is this a serious cellaring wine or something to drink soon?
It’s built for drinking soon, ideally within 2 to 3 years of the vintage. This isn’t a wine designed for long-term ageing, and it’s at its best while the fruit is still fresh and vibrant.
Is this wine dry or does it have some sweetness?
Fully dry. The strawberry and cherry aromas read as ripe rather than sweet, and the finish closes clean without any residual sugar.
How does this compare to Rutini’s more premium Malbec labels?
This is considerably simpler and more casual. Rutini’s Blend of Terroirs Malbec draws fruit from three separate Uco Valley sites for more structure and complexity. Bodega Histórica is a single-region, straightforward Malbec meant for everyday drinking.
What food works best with this bottle?
Grilled sausages, empanadas and simple tomato-based pasta are easy matches. A weeknight braai or a straightforward beef stew works just as well.

Description
A straightforward, fruit-driven Malbec from Maipú, one of Mendoza’s oldest and most historic wine districts. Made to be opened without ceremony, not cellared for a decade. Order online in Nairobi through The Wine Box Kenya.
Maipú sits just south of Mendoza city and is widely considered the birthplace of Argentine winemaking, home to some of the country’s oldest bodegas and vineyards. Bodega Histórica draws its name and identity directly from that history, and this Malbec is built as a simple, honest expression of what the district does well, ripe fruit, moderate structure, and a wine that’s ready to drink soon after release rather than something that asks for patience.
Seven months in new American oak is a relatively light touch compared to the estate’s more serious bottlings, and that’s the point here. The oak adds a gentle warmth and a touch of spice without ever taking over the fruit underneath, so what comes through in the glass is still recognisably young, vibrant Malbec. For a Nairobi buyer looking for a reliable, easy drinking red rather than something to think too hard about, this is the kind of bottle that does exactly what it promises, night after night, without asking anything extra of the drinker.

About The Winery
Felipe Rutini, an Italian agricultural technician, founded Bodega La Rural in Mendoza in 1885, building one of Argentina’s oldest wine estates still operating today. Over the following century the family expanded across several Mendoza districts, including Maipú, the region most closely associated with the country’s earliest winemaking history. The Bodega Histórica label draws on that heritage directly, offering a more accessible, everyday counterpart to Rutini’s premium single-vineyard and Blend of Terroirs ranges. The wines are available through The Wine Box Kenya in Nairobi.
