Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Dalwhinnie Distillery, situated in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The distillery is one of the highest in Scotland, nestled at an elevation of approximately 326 meters (1,070 feet) above sea level. It is known for its cold and harsh winters, which contribute to the unique character of the whisky.

How this product is made 

Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old is crafted using traditional methods, reflecting the essence of Scottish whisky production. The process begins with the selection of high-quality malted barley, which is soaked in water to start germination. After germination, the barley is dried over peat fires, contributing to the whisky’s subtle smokiness.

Once the barley is dried, it is ground into a grist and mixed with hot water to extract sugars. This sugary liquid, known as “wort,” is then fermented with yeast in large wooden washbacks. The fermentation process converts the sugars into alcohol, resulting in a liquid called “wash.”

The wash is then double-distilled in copper pot stills to separate the alcohol from the unwanted impurities, creating a high-proof spirit known as “new make.” The distillers carefully select the heart of the new make, discarding the less desirable “heads” and “tails” to ensure only the best spirit is used for maturation.

Dalwhinnie 15-Year-Old is aged for a minimum of 15 years in oak casks, typically American oak and European oak barrels. The extended maturation period allows the whisky to develop its characteristic complexity, smoothness, and mellow flavors.”
