Unlike a single varietal Chardonnay, which reflects one site and one grape, Blend of Terroirs Blend de Blancs draws on five varieties across three distinct Uco Valley sub-regions. That structural complexity is the point. Furthermore, unlike straightforward Torrontés, Argentina’s most internationally recognised white style. This blend offers more textural depth from its oak contact and varietal layering, while remaining approachable rather than heavy. For buyers in Kenya comparing Argentinian whites at The Wine Box Kenya, this is consequently one of the more distinctive options on the shelf: a wine engineered specifically around terroir contrast rather than a single grape’s character.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold in the glass with a faint green tint at the rim. The nose opens with ripe white peach, layered with a delicate chamomile-like floral note and subtle citrus undertones. The Gewürztraminer contribution is perceptible here, adding a lifted aromatic quality that straight Chardonnay alone would not produce. On the palate, the entry is rounded and generous. The brief oak contact contributes a silky texture and a gentle vanilla note that wraps around the fruit without dominating it. Stone fruit and a faint citrus thread carry through the mid-palate, supported by the structural backbone the Semillon addition provides. The five-variety composition gives the wine more textural layering than a single-varietal white typically delivers at this price point. The finish is medium in length, closing cleanly with a trace of orchard fruit and a soft floral note that lingers without any sharpness. This is a wine built for immediate pleasure rather than analytical complexity, and it achieves that goal directly.

Food Pairing

The combination of stone fruit richness and bright supporting acidity makes this blend particularly well suited to shellfish and grilled fish. Prawns, grilled sea bass and other white fish are the strongest matches. The wine’s texture and fruit weight hold up against richer preparations without overwhelming delicate flavours. Poultry finished with a light cream or herb sauce also works well alongside a glass, as does any dish with a citrus accent. Additionally, soft creamy cheeses pair naturally with the wine’s silky mid-palate texture. For a Nairobi gathering where the menu spans seafood and lighter poultry dishes, this is consequently a white that adapts across a full table rather than demanding one specific pairing.

What You Need to Know:

What makes a blend of five white grapes different from a single varietal white wine?
Each grape and sub-region contributes a distinct quality. Gualtallary Chardonnay adds concentration and mineral tension, El Cepillo Chardonnay adds freshness, and the smaller additions of Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Semillon layer in aromatic complexity and texture that no single variety produces alone.

Is this wine dry or does it have noticeable sweetness?
Fully dry. The white peach and floral aromas can suggest sweetness on the nose, but the palate closes cleanly with citrus and orchard fruit rather than any residual sugar.

How does this compare to a standard Argentinian Chardonnay?
It carries more aromatic complexity than a single varietal Chardonnay due to the Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc additions, while the brief oak contact gives it a similar silky texture. The result is rounder and more layered than most entry-level Chardonnay at a comparable price.

What food pairs best with this wine?
Grilled prawns, sea bass and other white fish are the strongest matches. Poultry with a light cream or herb sauce, and soft creamy cheeses, also work well alongside a chilled glass.

Is this a good wine for someone who usually drinks Torrontés?
Yes, though the style is different. Torrontés is more aromatically floral and lighter bodied. This blend offers more textural weight and complexity from its oak contact and varietal layering, making it a natural next step for Torrontés drinkers looking for more structure.

Description

Five white grape varieties from three distinct Uco Valley terroirs, blended into one wine. Rutini’s newest white release is now available at The Wine Box Kenya in Nairobi, built specifically for contemporary food pairing and everyday enjoyment.

Rutini’s winemaking team selected specific parcels within each sub-region to capture the most expressive characteristics of that particular site. Consequently, the blend is not a single varietal expression but a composite of place: Gualtallary Chardonnay for concentration and tension, El Cepillo Chardonnay for freshness and energy, and small additions of Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Semillon for aromatic complexity. The brief oak contact adds a silky texture without masking the fruit underneath. For buyers in Nairobi exploring Argentinian white wine beyond the more familiar Torrontés and single-varietal Chardonnay categories, this is one of the more technically ambitious whites currently available through The Wine Box Kenya.

About The Winery

Felipe Rutini, an Italian agricultural technician, founded Bodega La Rural in Mendoza in 1885, establishing one of Argentina’s oldest wine estates still in continuous operation. Over more than a century, the family extended its vineyard holdings across the Uco Valley, eventually acquiring distinct parcels in Gualtallary, El Cepillo and Altamira — each prized for a different combination of altitude, soil and exposure. The Blend of Terroirs line, launched as a modern addition to the Rutini portfolio, was designed specifically to showcase how those distinct sub-regions interact when combined in a single wine, rather than bottled separately. Head winemaker Mariano Di Paola, recognised by Decanter in 2015 as one of the top 30 winemakers in the world, leads the selection of parcels for each release. Rutini Wines now sells in over 60 countries, with the Blend of Terroirs range available through The Wine Box Kenya in Nairobi.
